Thai favorite Ugly Baby has temporarily closed

Ugly Baby — the Carroll Gardens Thai restaurant considered by many New Yorkers to be among the best Thai restaurants in the city — has temporarily closed. Writer Jeremy Gordon first broke the news on his Twitter account, and the restaurant confirmed the news to Eater saying that it was taking a pause to prepare for indoor dining and to create a new menu.

100-year-old Borracchini’s Bakery, a traditional Seattle destination, is closed for good

After 100 years of selling spectacular cakes for weddings and office parties, the landmark Borracchini’s Bakery & Mediterranean Market on Rainier Avenue South announced Saturday it was closed for good.

The pandemic has taken down another business — this one, a destination for generations of Seattleites who couldn’t resist the sweet offerings while immersing themselves in tradition.

“ … we are in the party business. The problem with that is no one has been gathering over the past year to have those parties. Needless to say, it was devastating to our business,” said the family on the bakery’s Facebook page

It’s been a year since the pandemic hit our area, and it’s been an especially sad one for local restaurants that have struggled financially or found it too difficult to stay open in the face of COVID restrictions. Here are just a few of the local food establishments we will miss:

Framingham

Volturno, 1 Edgell Road, Framingham. This restaurant, with its delicious pizzas
