Dolan’s Uyghur Cuisine brings fusion food from Central Asia to Alhambra

ALHAMBRA — Bugra Arkin, owner of Dolans Uyghur Cuisine, is introducing diners to a type of food most people might not be familiar with. Uyghur cuisine originates from the Uyghur region in Central Asia called Xinjiang and is influenced by a melting pot of cultures including Indian, Persian, Turkish, Arabic, and Chinese.

Arkin grew up in a Uyghur region of Eastern Xinjiang called Dolan, which is where the name of his Alhambra, CA restaurant comes from.

“In our restaurant, you can find like all of the elements of different cultures,” said Arkin.

Fusion India in Southlake offers traditional dishes

In Indian culture, no guest can leave on an empty stomach, said Ashok Anchuri, co-owner of Fusion India in Southlake.

“[Whenever] guests or anyone comes [in] …at minimum, they have to drink water,” he said.

Fusion India opened in March 2018 and is owned by Anchuri and Naveen Ganga. The restaurant offers traditional dishes and authentic flavors from regions all over India.

“Every region has different tastes, different foods, different items,” Anchuri said.

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Opening a restaurant in the middle of a pandemic isn’t ideal, but Gilma and Edward DeLaCruz did it and are sharing the culture of the Dominican Republic through flavorful food at Art Caribbean Fusion Cuisine.
