New garden takes root in Bayfield with focus on healthy ingredients, food security

Pine River Shares is taking on food insecurity in eastern La Plata County with the help of a new, sustainable food garden.

The garden’s produce will add fresh, healthy ingredients to the nonprofit’s weekly food share programs in Bayfield and Ignacio. Already, apple trees and garlic are taking root at the Bayfield Education Center, home of Pine River Shares, with the help of community volunteers and students.

“Everyone deserves access to healthy, sustainably raised food,” said Halie Forsthoff, dean of the Bayfield School District Wolverine Academy.

Huck House Brunchette to replace Sunrise Cafe in Garden City/Boise, ID

The Sunrise Cafe on State St. near Glenwood closed up shop, and won’t reopen the Garden City location. But owner Boomer Godsill has something new planned.

Huck House Brunchette will open soon at 7135 W. State St., after renovations wrap up. A new menu, updated branding, in-house roasted coffee, and more. The large 4,974 square foot restaurant building dates to 1980, and will get a new look and updated concept.

Godsill took over ownership of the local Sunrise Cafes, long operated by his family, in the fall of 2019. Soon after, the COVID-19 pandemic hit and he started making changes.
